According to a 2007 poll conducted by the American Psychological Association, one-third of Americans are living with extreme stress and nearly half of Americans (48 percent) believe that their stress has increased over the past five years. That stress is having an impact on the personal and professional lives of nearly half of all Americans and three-quarters of Americans report that stress has a negative impact on their physical and psychological health, which illustrates the critical role of stress management skills in promoting a healthy mind and body. The first Mind/Body Health Fair provided a unique opportunity to educate the public about the health consequences of stress and provide strategies for participants to help them make lifestyle and behavior changes to better manage their stress.

The event featured local psychologists from the Georgia Psychological Association as well as a variety of local exhibitors that provided information and demonstrations to help people learn about healthy ways to manage stress and keep their minds and bodies healthy. In addition, the Fair also illustrated ways lifestyle and behavior can aide in disease management and prevention. Event attendees received a stress questionnaire upon arrival to determine their existing knowledge about stress and how well they were managing their own stress. At that point they entered the Fair exhibits and demonstrations area where they learned more about healthy behaviors to manage stress.
