Workshop Title: Private Practice in the Digital Age: Telehealth, EHRs & Online Recordkeeping

Workshop Description:

Whether you love technology or long for paper/pencil days, this workshop will teach you about digital tools that can make your life easier. We’ll look at some of the issues involved in becoming “digitized” to enable you to make the best choices for your practice. Sample discussion points include:

  • Geting started: From scratch and/or transfer from one practice management system to another.
  • Online safety: Hacking, data breaches, bugs.
  • Encryption: What’s safe and what isn’t?
  • Choosing your tools: What’s good, what isn’t?
  • PSYPACT: What is it and how can it help?
  • HIPAA: Compliance issues when using digital tools.

Learning Objectives

  1. Attendees will be able to list several factors to consider in choosing digital tools such as EHRs, video software, schedulers, encrypted email, online storage, etc.

  2. Attendees will be able to explain the difference between data in motion and data at rest and discuss ways to keep data at rest safe.

  3. Attendees will be able to discuss safety issues with online data storage and explain why the presenter claims web-based storage is the safest way to maintain client records.
