Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an Evidence Based Treatment for many mental health concerns, including Depression and Anxiety. This experiential workshop will introduce the 6 Core Concepts of ACT through activities and metaphors designed to enhance learning. Participants will be able to utilize these experiences in their work with clients from a variety of backgrounds. This workshop is best presented in a 6 hour format, although an abbreviated 3 hour form can be presented.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to explain the 6 core concepts of ACT.
  2. Participants will demonstrate use of metaphor in treatment.
  3. Participants will utilize mindfulness exercises to increase awareness.
About the Presenter:

Dr. Jennifer Smith is a psychologist with the Atlanta VA Medical Center. She uses ACT as a primary mode of treatment in her work with veterans for a variety of presenting problems, and presented at GPA's Annual Meeting in 2011 on the use of ACT in psychologist self-care. She is also President-elect of GPA.

Registrants must cancel within five (5) business days through Amy Dietrich only via email or phone (contacting other staff members/leadership does not guarantee your cancellation.) Email confirmations will be sent to callers who cancel via the phone. No faxes or mail cancellations will be accepted.
