The workshop will address the often complex ethical issues that arise in work with Children and Families, particularly those who are currently going through the process of divorce or who are going through a divorce and/or struggling with child custody issues. Using the APA Ethical Principals of Psychologists and Code of Conduct as a framework, various decision models will be described that can be used to focus the thinking of clinicians who are facing such challenges. Clinical vignettes will be used to illustrate this process and to provide participants with the opportunity to apply the decision models to the clinical vignettes.

CE Hours: 3 (Ethics)

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe different decision making models that can be applied to ethical questions.
  2. Participants will demonstrate the ability to recognize potential ethical conflicts that arise when working with children and families who are in the process of divorce.
  3. Participants will demonstrate the ability to apply ethical decision models to common ethical dilemmas in work with children and families.
