Join GPA and Dr. Elliott in this introductory workshop on motivational interviewing. In this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe primary processes associated with MI including engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning;
  2. Utilize basic client-centered skills including open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries;
  3. Identify and respond appropriately to both client change talk and sustain talk;
  4. Employ strategies for eliciting client change talk; and
  5. Apply strategies for working with clients to develop change plans and consolidate commitment.

About the Presenter:

Erin Elliott, PhD is an outpatient psychologist at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She received her doctorate degree from the Counseling Psychology program at Auburn University, AL. Dr. Elliott is the lead psychologist for the General Mental Health Psychology Training Committee and co-chairs the Diversity Education Committee for Psychology Training. She is national a Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MI/MET) consultant for the Veterans Administration. As a part of this role, she helps facilitate three-day MI/MET workshops followed by six-month consultation with smaller cohorts of the individuals trained. She is a member of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). MINT is an international organization of MI trainers and represents 35 countries and 20 different languages.

Cancellation Policy:
Registrants must cancel through Amy Dietrich only via email or phone (contacting other staff members/leadership does not guarantee your cancellation.) No faxes or mail cancellations will be accepted.
Cancellation Fee: $35
Refunds will not be given for cancellations within five (5) business days prior to the workshop date.
