Workshop Description:

African American Female Sexuality: Integrating the Fractured Pieces is a presentation about sexuality and
cultural diversity.The purpose of the workshop will be to outline the various attitudes, perspectives, and
stereotypes that have contributed to misconceptions about African-American female sexuality - including
religion, media, developmental, and socioeconomics. There will be an emphasis on how these views have
negatively impacted how she is perceived and how she experiences and expresses her sexuality. The
clinician will present a more integrated portrayal of African-American female sexuality. Thus, aiding in
facilitating understanding and integration for this clinical population and those who serve her.

Learning Objectives:

  1. By the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to identify attitudes, stereotypes and misconceptions that affect African-American female sexuality.

  2. By the end of the presentation clinicians will be able to describe the role of integration in understanding African-American female sexual identity.

      About the Presenter:

      Human Sexuality has been a central focus in the professional career of Dr. Myrtle C. Means.  Dr. Means conducted her dissertation research on female sexual and relationship satisfaction.  She has also been certified by AASECT as a sexual therapist. Dr. Means has taught human sexuality at the Michigan School of Professional Psychology.

      Cancellation Policy:
      All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Staci Bratcher via email ( A $15 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations prior to January 12, 2018. No refunds will be given after January 5, 2018.
