Acceptance is being increasingly utilized and integrated in treatment modalities. The purpose of this three-hour workshop is to present didactically and experientially the use of acceptance in college counseling. The workshop covers: (a) defining acceptance within the therapeutic context, (b) empirical considerations of acceptance, (c) issues and considerations when applying acceptance-based interventions with diverse clients, (d) clinical and experiential examples of how acceptance may be utilized in presenters’ practice of ACT and MBCT, and (e) how participants/mental health practitioners can use acceptance to enhance their own self-care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate how acceptance may be utilized in therapy.
  2. Describe several cultural considerations in the application of acceptance-based interventions.
  3. Explain how acceptance can be used in participants’ treatment modalities.
  4. List ways acceptance can be used in participants’ self-care.

About the Presenter:

Jaclyn Schuon is a staff psychologist and the practicum coordinator at the University of North Georgia, Gainesville campus. She has extensive experience providing numerous services at a variety of college and university counseling centers. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level and utilizes that training to inform her integrative approach to therapy. She has also done some work as a freelance writer on various topics related to the field of psychology.

Jeffrey Henderson is a psychologist employed at the University of Georgia’s University Health Center. He received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993. He has served in four university counseling centers, private practice, and community mental health. He is the former director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Mercer University, and also served as a staff psychologist at the University of Southern Mississippi

Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Staci Bratcher via email (stacibratcher@gapsychology.org). A $35 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations prior to August 1, 2017. No refunds will be given after August 1, 2017.
