Workshop Title: Building Resilience Through Mindfulness and Acceptance in Daily Life

 

Workshop Description: 

The purpose of this three-hour workshop is to present didactically and experientially how mindfulness and acceptance practices in daily life can be used to increase both client and therapist resilience. This workshop aims to a) define mindfulness and acceptance b) Describe numerous ways to practice mindfulness and acceptance in daily life (at work as well as at home) c) identify how these practices work to increase client and therapist resilience d) provide empirical support for the application of mindfulness and acceptance techniques d) delineate several issues and considerations when applying these techniques to diverse clients. Participants will have a greater understanding of mindfulness and acceptance techniques, and will leave with an array of specific tools they can start utilizing with clients and themselves. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate how mindfulness and acceptance techniques can be utilized in daily life to increase client resilience. Participants will be able to explain how mindfulness and acceptance practices can help clients handle stressors more effectively, and they will learn several exercises they can utilize as therapeutic interventions.
  2. Demonstrate how mindfulness and acceptance techniques can be utilized in daily life to increase therapist resilience in both personal and professional capacities. Participants will be able to identify how mindfulness and acceptance techniques can improve their emotion regulation, work-life balance, well-being, and quality and life, and they will learn several practices they can apply to their daily life.
  3. Describe several individual and cultural considerations in the application of mindfulness and acceptance-based interventions. Participants will be able to make modifications based on certain factors such as religion, trauma history, race, or ethnicity.

      About the Presenters:

       Jeffrey Henderson, PhD, ABPP is a licensed psychologist who has facilitated and co-facilitated numerous workshops on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness.

       

      Jaclyn Schuon, PsyD is a licensed psychologist and 200-hour trained yoga instructor. She has co-facilitated a previous GPA workshop with Dr. Henderson and she has given numerous presentations to college students. She is also a contract worker for FitSpot and provides stress management seminars to corporations.  

       

       

      Registration Costs (per workshop): 

      Early Bird Registration (Must be postmarked on or before September 6, 2019 to receive this rate.)

      • $20: *GPA Student Members

      Registration (After September 6, 2019)

      • $80: GPA Members
      • $115: Non-members
      • $30: *GPA Student Members

      Must be logged into member profile to receive member rate.

      *If a GPA Student Member needs continuing education credits, he/she will need to pay the higher GPA Member fee regardless of status as a student.

      Cancellation Policy:
      All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Hannah Steinberg via email (admin@gapsychology.org). A $35 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations prior to September 13, 2019. No refunds will be given after September 13, 2019.
