Workshop Title: Here and Now: Using the Present Moment to Instigate Therapeutic Change

Workshop Description:

The willingness and ability to stay present and flexible in the face of distress is a hallmark of psychological flexibility and necessary for therapeutic change to occur; yet, this key skill is difficult for clients and therapists alike.  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy offers a powerful approach for helping therapists utilize present moment processes to inspire change.  ACT is a transdiagnostic treatment effective for clients from diverse backgrounds. Whether you are an ACT therapist or just want to be more effective with the therapy you’re already doing, this workshop will have something to offer.

Learning Objectives:

  1.         Describe the theoretical and empirical bases for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
  2. Describe the six processes of the psychological flexibility.

  3.  Apply the processes of present moment awareness to clinical interactions to increase  psychological flexibility in self and clients.

      CE Hours: 3

       Level: Intermediate
