Workshop Title: Careers in Professional Psychology – Private Practice (and some other options)

Workshop Description:

So you think you want to be in private practice?  Great….how do you make that happen?  This workshop will look at some of the ways a private practice in psychology can look.  It will provide a general outline of the steps to setting up and creating a private practice, using the presenter’s own experience as a model, but also comparing this part-time, solo practitioner approach to group practices, full time practice, and other models.  Participants will focus on questions they may want to consider before taking this exciting step into their emerging careers.

This workshop will also include time for consideration of how to merge this work with other professional work that may be the primary, or secondary, focus of a career.  Issues of balance, burnout, networking and how to begin creating these careers will be addressed.  Time for questions will be included throughout.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify multiple services a therapist in private practive might provide.
  2. Participants will discuss steps involved with establishing a private practice small business.
  3. Participants will examine niche marketing as a function of clinician competency and ethical practice, not just a marketing technique.
