Workshop Title: Getting Clear About What Works With Adolescent Drug Addicts

Workshop Description:

Because working with adolescent drug addicts is a challenging task at best, it is important for the clinician to be clear about which assumptions and procedures are likely to produce positive outcomes. Research alone can be confusing and, at times, contradictory. For this reason, some degree of experience can help to clarify what works. Utilizing evidence plus 40 years of experience this workshop will examine some of the myths that can lead clinicians in the wrong direction and, in so doing, point the way towards more effective interventions. (Intermediate)

Learning Objectives:

1. Learner will be able to explain the relationship between adolescent brain development and vulnerability to drug use and abuse.
2. Learner will be able to list reasons why a period of abstinence is a necessary but not sufficient condition for recovery.
3. Learner will be able to list the components of an effective, evidence based treatment program.
4. Learner will be able to list the components of comprehensive drug screening protocol.

      CE Hours: 3
