Workshop Description:

Social media has become ever-present in daily living and its applications continue to expand. Use of social media in clinical practice can be helpful and advantageous but comes with inherent challenges. This workshop will cover the basics of integrating social media into your practice (which platforms to use and why) with consideration of our ethical obligations and cultural mindfulness. (Intermediate)

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify APA Ethical Code considerations when integrating social media into clinical practice.

2. Summarize use of various social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, podcasts, and blogging.

3. Demonstrate clear examples of how to utilize social media while remaining ethical and with culturally sensitive.

Presenter Qualifications:

Dr. Zachary Friedman is a licensed clinical psychologist who currently works as the associate director of counseling and psychological services at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, GA. He previously worked in Chicago in an outpatient mental health clinic on a hospital campus providing therapy, working in the main hospital, running an IOP for substance use disorders, and supervising at all levels of training. He has worked on his own mental health podcast called “The 50 Minute Hour” that focused on helping consumers learn more about and get more from mental health services. He is a strong advocate for easy and ample access to mental health services within an integrated healthcare model.

Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Hannah Steinberg via email ( A $35 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations prior to October 9, 2020. No refunds will be given after October 9, 2020.
