Dear Colleagues,
In April 2016, as GPA President-elect, I asked a GPA Leadership Team to develop a Strategic Plan for GPA for 2017-2020, as this is an important tool for moving organizations forward on their goals. We invested many hours into this undertaking with the donated time and expertise of consultant Tamara Jones, founder of Evident Impact. The GPA Board of Directors gave input to refine the Strategic Plan proposed in August 2017. In November 2017, the Board voted unanimously to pass the final product now published on the GPA website.
In brief, the Strategic Plan focuses on 4 goals for GPA: Advocacy for professional and public mental health issues; Increasing membership and engagement; Enhancing membership and leadership diversity; and Financial stability. There are currently 19 objectives between the 4 goals, and each objective has metrics and time frames to assess the progress of the strategies toward the objectives within each goal. The strategies have identified individuals accountable for the results, and the strategies can be modified if they are not generating progress toward the objectives with the 4 goals. Thus, the Strategic Plan is a document meant to evolve as we assess our progress.
Finally, I thank Dr. Dora Soublis, GPA President-elect, and Dr. Gayle Spears, GPA Executive Director, for working on the Strategic Plan with me. I am indebted to Tamara Jones for her generosity in donating her consulting time and expertise to GPA in this endeavor. I appreciate the GPA Board of Directors for collaborating and striving to create a document to guide GPA now and in the future. This Leadership Team and the GPA Board aim to generate ongoing success, improvements, and growth for your professional association with this Strategic Plan.
With gratitude for your membership and involvement in GPA,
Ren Massey, Ph.D.
