We’re so excited to share that Dr. Michelle Bahadur-Casimir, current GPA Annual Meeting Co-Chair, was awarded the APA Early Career Achievement Award at the APA’s most recent conference in Chicago, IL. Michelle was recognized for her extraordinary work with GPA and especially while serving as the Chair of the Early Career Psychologists (ECP) committee.

As a native of Trinidad and Tobago, Michelle completed her doctoral degree at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology before completing her postdoctoral residency with the Emory University School of Medicine/Grady Health System. Michelle began working with the Atlanta VA Medical Center as a Staff Psychologist in the Domiciliary and Substance Use Disorder programs while having a dual appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Emory University of Medicine.

During her time as the Chair of the ECP Committee, Michelle developed and implemented numerous projects including starting a monthly peer consultation group, a Lunch & Learn Webinar series for ECPs, ECP Mentorship program and holding monthly virtual meetings with committee members. In addition to her role as Chair of the ECP Committee, Michelle has always been a strong advocate for ECP involvement and representation in various aspects including her work with GPA’s Public Interest and Ethics Committee Chairs as well as creating the first ever student association for GPA called GPAGS. Michelle has been involved in numerous projects on behalf of and with ECPs to ensure their voices are adequately represented among the executive committee and state leaders.

Thanks to Michelle for her continued work and dedication with ECPs; the upcoming 2020 Annual Meeting is sure to have plenty of ECP representation!
