It is time to begin the process of selecting members to serve as two officers of Georgia Psychological Association (GPA). As a growing and changing association, we need your consideration, time, and talent. The open offices and nomination process are outlined below.

Two elected offices and Executive Committee positions, President-Elect and Vice-President, are open for nominations this year. The individual elected for President-Elect serves for three years on the Executive Committee. Specifically, the individual serves a term of one year as the President-Elect, followed by a term of one year as President, and a final year as Past President, with the initial term beginning July 1, 2019.  The Vice-President serves a three-year term on the Executive Committee, beginning July 1, 2019.

In order to be considered for an elected office, all candidates must be current members in good standing of GPA.  They should be willing to give the necessary time commitment required to perform the duties of the office for which they are considered.  It is strongly recommended and highly preferred that candidates for office have served a minimum of one year on the GPA Board of Directors, but the Nominations and Elections Committee may consider candidates with a record of sustained achievement either to GPA, the profession, or another SPTA. Candidates should not be involved in any pending ethics proceedings or complaints and will sign a statement stating that they are not.  Candidates will be requested to submit a statement of interest and qualifications to the Chair of the Nominating Committee to be included with the ballot to members.

If elected, candidates should plan to attend Executive Committee meetings [held approximately 10 times per year (either in person or virtually), usually during the Friday lunch hour], in addition to quarterly Board of Directors meetings [held on Saturday mornings].  Additionally, elected officers are also expected to attend other GPA functions and represent the Association as requested, in addition to involvement in membership recruitment and retention activities.  As leaders of the Association, officers are encouraged to make an annual gift to the Georgia Psychological Association Foundation and Georgia Psychological Association Political Action Committee.

Nominations will be accepted from current GPA members, Directorates, Committees, the Nominations and Election Committee (Committee members include: Drs. Rachel Anne Kieran, Decia Dixon, and Nancy McGarrah), or through a self-nomination process.

Nominations should be submitted to Rachel Anne Kieran, Psy.D. (Chair, GPA Nominations and Elections Committee) at on or before January 30, 2020.  All interested candidates will be asked to submit a brief statement of interest and qualifications for consideration upon request.

Electronic ballots for the officers' election will be circulated to GPA members by March 1, 2020.  Results of the elections will be announced at the GPA Annual Business Meeting in conjunction with the Annual Meeting on May 3, 2020.

GPA needs the support and involvement of all members.  Thank you for considering the opportunity to serve your state psychological association or to make a nomination of a qualified candidate.
