Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy: Research, Treatment Paradigms and Harm Reduction
Live Webinar, CE: 3 HoursPresenter: Mary Gresham, Ph.D. Webinar Description:
This workshop is designed to introduce psychologists to the emerging field of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy, an area of work that is often characterized by stereotypes, myths and misinformation. We will review a brief history of the field and note the major research studies and outcomes. We will identify which clinical issues and which clients are appropriate for this type of short term evidence based intervention. Increasing numbers of our clients will be trying these substances and today's clinician needs to understand and educate others on the principles of harm reduction for psychedelic substances. We will clarify the legality of differing approaches, ethical issues in the field and note the lack of diversity currently being addressed in the field. This is a broad overview of the field appropriate for those interested in alternate states of consciousness as a method of change. (Intermediate) Learning Objectives: At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe at least 5 clinical diagnoses that are appropriate for psychedelic assisted therapeutic interventions. 2. List 5 medications and 3 experiences used to induce alternate states of consciousness. 3. Identify the protocols for the safe use of psychedelic medicines and refer to resources available to clients. 4. Refer to a comprehensive bibliography of resources for future questions.
