The Political Action Committee (PAC) is the political fundraising arm of the Georgia Psychological Association GPA). The PAC is a nonpartisan organization focused on safeguarding the right for psychologists to practice within the full
range of our expertise and training as well as promoting legislation that enhances the mental health of all Georgians. Donations to the PAC are voluntary and GPA dues are separate from donations to the PAC.
What is Lobbying?
Lobbying is any activity intended to influence decisions made by legislators. GPA employs a professional lobbyist to assist us to achieve our aims within the legislative and policy area. Our current lobbyist, together with his team, has
extensive expertise in working with legislators, and a thorough understanding of mental health policy and professional standards. As GPA members, we work with the lobbying team when we are called upon to have conversations with legislators
on pending legislative proposals, ours or those of other groups. As needed, we also develop materials to facilitate legislators’ understanding of our issues. In so doing, we serve as “citizen lobbyists.”
Why Should I Donate?
Your contribution helps make sure the lobbying efforts of GPA are successful. Our lobbying team educates state legislators about the importance of mental health policies by providing evidenced based recommendations to inform their decision making.
How Can I Donate?
We hope that you will make a monthly contribution to the PAC. If every GPA member were to donate $25 per month, we would have in excess of $40,000 per year to help ensure that the voice of GPA is heard loud and clear in the Gold
Dome. You can also make a one-time donation (although we really hope you will choose the monthly option!)
You can get to know your state representative and state senator. Personal contact between psychologists and their own legislators is the best way for our organization and our profession to be recognized by our elected officials.
