Culturally Responsive Psychotherapy and Clinical Supervision for a New EraOn-Demand Webinar, CE: 4 Hours Workshop Description: In this half-day workshop, we will discuss culturally responsive psychotherapy and clinical supervision with a focus on recent empirical and theoretical advances. Specifically, prior models and their limitations will be discussed, and the Multicultural Orientation model and Structural Competencies will be introduced. We will review important constructs such as privilege and microaggressions, common misconceptions about them, and their application to psychotherapy and supervision. Additionally, intersectionality and its application to psychotherapy and clinical supervision will be discussed. Common barriers to culturally responsive care will be addressed, and strategies for overcoming these barriers provided. Clinical case examples will be discussed. (Introductory) Learning Objectives: 1: Define and describe the difference between the multicultural competence model and the multicultural orientation model 2: Define and understand how to apply cultural humility, cultural comfort, and cultural opportunities to psychotherapy and clinical supervision
3: Define and describe structural competencies and their importance to psychotherapy and clinical supervision 4: Apply strategies to combat internal barriers to cultural self-awareness, cultural humility, and cultural comfort About the Presenter: Dr. Melanie Wilcox, ABPP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences and the Institute of Public and Preventive Health at Augusta University in Augusta, GA. She is also a licensed psychologist in private practice providing teletherapy and teleassessment. She has served in a number of leadership roles in the American Psychological Association and its Divisions, including as a current member (and 2020 Chair) of the APA Board of Educational Affairs. Her research focuses predominantly on culturally responsive psychotherapy, supervision, and training. References Cancellation Policy:
