Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is gaining popularity as a powerful, evidence-based approach for a wide variety of clinical problems. While learning ACT techniques is important, the techniques are not the therapy. Effective ACT requires some fundamental shifts in the therapist’s way of thinking and being in the room. This workshop will describe and demonstrate those shifts using case examples and experiential practice. Both those new to ACT and those with more experience with the model may find this workshop useful and are welcome. (Intermediate) Learning Objectives: - Describe five shifts in perspective, stance, or practice for doing ACT effectively.
- Describe at least one clinical implication of relational frame theory.
- Demonstrate the ability to conceptualize client problems using a functional-contextual perspective.
- Describe the ACT model of psychological flexibility.
