The Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists is a six-member board consisting of five psychologists and one consumer member. Board members are appointed by the Governor to provide consumer protection and public health and welfare through the regulation of the profession. The Board processes licensure applications and receives, investigates and adjudicates complaints issued against licensed psychologists. GPA has a representative in attendance at each meeting. However anyone who wants to attend the “open” session of a meeting of the BOE can find a link on the Board’s website that also provides an agenda for each meeting. Guests at each meeting are asked to introduce themselves and to say what their business is with the Board. The BOE website provides links to the statues and rules related to the practice of psychology in Georgia. There is also a link to filing a complaint against any psychologists who seems to be practicing illegally or unethically. Further the website provides information related to the license status of all psychologists in Georgia and various forms used by the Board. Please go to the website for these resources. GPA staff cannot address questions that are the purview of the Board.
Contacting the Board of Examiners A number of listserv participants have commented on difficulties encountered when attempting to contact a licensing board representative. One reason for such difficulties has been the manner of contact. The most visible manner of contact on the website has been a phone number (844-753-7825). Unfortunately, that number will connect the caller to nothing more than call center where an operator will only be able to take a message. They would not be qualified to provide any meaningful answers to licensing-related questions.
